Maker Hardware
Maker Hardware is a design studio focused on consumer electronics. All design and manufacturing is done in Brooklyn, New York. Our first product is a Bluetooth speaker, the Boombox. As a practice, we are not focused on creating novel products, but rather offering our take on a basic device. With our version, we hope to offer long-lasting devices that are sustainably manufactured with a killer look.
For a device to stand the test of time, it must be built on a foundation of strong materials. Furthermore, we have chosen to design in a way that enables maintenance and repair of a device. Today, consumer electronics are designed to be used for a set timeframe, then thrown away – planned obsolescence. How infuriating it is to throw away a phone solely because the battery has died – can’t we just replace the battery!? Products should be designed to last forever. Maker Hardware is anti-planned obsolescence and pro-repair.
In this spirit, the body of the speaker and the electrical system are designed to allow users to replace the batteries when they begin to fade. We make it as easy as replacing the batteries in your tv remote.

Patrick Cronin
Yello, I am the owner, and currently sole employee, of Maker Hardware. My formal education focused on computer science, electrical engineering, and physics. Outside of intellectual pursuits, I enjoy comedy, traveling, cycling, cooking, and conversation. The business was birthed out of my passion for building. As an electromechanical technician for a company making GPS devices, I found immense satisfaction in building, assembling, and ensuring the quality of the products our customers received. I plan to transfer this skill set to the creation of artisanal consumer electronics. If you’d like to learn more about me please visit my personal website.
