Built in Brooklyn
Hi, I’m Patrick Cronin – a physicist and electrical engineer. I design and manufacture consumer electronics from my apartment in Bushwick, New York City.
Crazy? Maybe. But I felt the consumer electronics industry was deeply flawed – devices were sealed to the owners, there is no ability to understand and repair a device, and products are thrown away when the battery fades. I started Maker Hardware to offer consumers beautiful designs that prioritize longevity, sustainability, and customization.

Our first product is a portable Bluetooth speaker: the TTD.3000 Boombox. Rethinking the way electronics are made means we have to make them ourselves. The speaker is made of 3d printed components, and the whole product is assembled by hand in BROOKLYN.

Built To Last
Today, consumer electronics are designed to be used for a set timeframe, then thrown away – planned obsolescence. How infuriating it is to throw away a phone solely because the battery has died – can’t we just replace the battery!? Products should be designed to last forever. Maker Hardware is anti-planned obsolescence and pro-repair.
In this spirit, the body of the speaker and the electrical system are designed to allow users to replace the batteries when they begin to fade. We make it as easy as replacing the batteries in your tv remote.

However, sometimes the repair isn’t just dead batteries. The speaker is designed in a highly modular way that makes it easy to isolate and remove the broken part.
The modular design allows us to offer a lifetime repair program. We will provide the shipping label and only charge for the replacement part.

Designed for Customization
Endless possibilities.
Choose your favorite face and color combination. If none of them are suitable, print your own! Find the 3d files for the front face on the product page. If you have an idea or color preference, send me a message online or via our socials to request a custom design.
We hope to create products and accompany them with ample documentation to foster a community of owners that feel a level of ownership over their device. We hope to promote repair and customization that is present in the custom PC and classic car communities.
